Almost Teams:

This year I almost got to have a lot of fun with Texas Teams.  Our Central Texas Disc Golf Meetup almost had six people for an emerging division.  We would have 6 who played match play requiring 3 intermediates and 3 advanced.  We just didn’t quite field enough interest this year.  Some of the people who were interested would be playing up and some “advanced” for us would be intermediate players and some of the people interested in playing “intermediate” are definitely rec players.  I don’t always have to win but I certainly like to avoid dead last in tournaments even if you are going for fun.

There are going to be close to 290 disc golffers camped out in Wimberly for Texas Teams this year.  $50 gets you a sweatshirt, camping, lunches, and entry into the event.  Tony, our player with the #1 tag, doesn’t work right now so he wouldn’t be playing.  Jason committed to play with DG Review if they could field a team but they didn’t have enough players either.

Parker, of the Double R, is fielding a team from Wilco.  I might could have gotten in on that but I certainly wouldn’t play for another team when our meetup is trying to field one.  Next year, it would be nice to field an “established team.”  That requires nine players in various divisions including Masters (over 40) and a female player too.  That would be the  hard part.  I'm really an outdoorsy person and this would have been a lot more fun to me than the other concurrent event which is Boardgamegeek.con so it really didn’t bother me that the event is the same weekend as Boardgamegeek.con this year.  I enjoyed my trips to the disc golf courses in the Dallas area better than the game room last year.  I even got Jon Grimm to join for one short trip.  I did enjoy playing some new games (Galaxy Trucker, Gypsy King, Hamburgum) and the poker tournament was a lot of fun.  I’m not playing as many games this year.  I probably should have bought a bigger house when I moved to Texas and then I would be able to host more.
