Ace #2!

| Monday, March 31, 2008

I just got Ace #2 at Brushy Creek, Cat Hollow. It was hole #2, a short hole with a Firebird thumber. Love that feeling! Did the guys ahead of me see my ace? Of course not! Still, it was sweet! Stepped up, pulled one disc out of my bag, let her fling, and boom!

I thank DiscGolfReview.Com for this. I had read that Firebirds were good thumbers there and sought one out. It's a keeper.

Welcome to Corey

| Sunday, March 30, 2008

It's obvious Corey has played a lot of disc golf in the short time he's enjoyed the sport.  His distance was incredible.  I throw pretty far and I was nowhere near his disc on several holes.

In a tournament it's illegal for you to take gimme's. Everyone has to hole out. Sometimes Corey would gather up all of our discs and hand them to us when they are under the basket. Old Settlers Park is huge. there's a certain satisfaction in actually banging the chains , even if it is right under the basket.

As you can see, we had 4 for disc golf Saturday.  Mark enjoyed entertaining Corey with his retriever.  Apparently Corey has been reading Mark's blog for a long time and going to the places we've played like the Rivery and looking for the baskets.  He has also wondered about all the board games he's never heard of and the angles we play at Old Settlers (when we were playing the Winter Course Variant).

Nick and Stephanie also found us through Mark's blog.  Nick said we play games and disc golf so they might as well kill two birds with one stone and hook up with us.

As of this writing, Renkoo seems to be messed up so no Tichu tonight. Maybe next week we'll do Rio Grande.

A Full Day

| Thursday, March 27, 2008
I'm looking forward to a 4-day class next week followed by a 5-day class the week after that. In the meantime, I had some free time so I spent it playing.

I joined JP, Chad, and Ben for my two favorite games at Great Hall Games. We played Tichu (to 616) and Traders of Genoa. While we were waiting for others to show up, JP and I played a couple of games of Ruse and Bruise. I hope this game is a lot more fun with more players. I got it due to decent reviews, the fact that it goes from 2 to 6, and that it plays in 30 minutes so it's probably a good meetup game. It wasn't very exciting for two.

I left Great Hall and headed to DiscNation in South Austin where Des and Jay Reading were giving a free disc golf clinic on driving. Des is the number 1 rated woman disc golfer and Jay is rated about 17 among men. I learned a lot but I have a lot to think about when I drive now. I should, for example, pivot on my heel of my front foot instead of the toe and avoid coiling the disc for my backhand throw and bring it tighter to my chest.

Playing with the new toy called Bitstrips.

I'm putting most of the disc golf stuff over at Discgolfers.us but I wanted to see if this would work here.
