Not Politically Correct to Drink Bottled Water

| Tuesday, July 15, 2008

OK, I get it.  It's not  politically correct to drink bottled water any more.

Form Ventura County Star.

Don't even get people started about Fiji water robbing the resources of a poor island.

Maybe that's why I see people drinking beer on the disc golf courses of Texas.

Weekend of Meetups

| Monday, July 14, 2008
We had 11 people at Wilco for disc golf.  We split into three groups and that worked pretty well.  When we were finished, several of us played another round.  I have to practice all the time just to not be dead last with the players who are showing up now.  That keeps me on my toes.

On Sunday, three of us played at Manor.  Manor is a brutal course, especially when you play it from the long tees like we did.  I kept up with the "advanced" players though so that was good.

Someone brought sort of a party game to word games meetup Saturday that I enjoyed.  I've had it on the shelf forever and I think I bought it at a thrift store.  Before the timer ticks down, you jot down up to 10 words with the three letter combination in play.  The letters must remain in sequence but you can have letters before, in between, or after the letters.  For example, if you were using AME like in the picture you could put fame, and frame and amenities as well.  You could also use words like lament and pavement too.  The "party game" twist is that if someone else calls out the same word you have, you must mark it off your list and they get 2 points instead of 1.  This meant you had to sort of think what the other players would be choosing as well.

As I was heading to church Saturday night, they were talking about playing Scattergories.  That's another frenetic game for word freaks I wish I got to play more often.

Tichu was fun as always.  Wayne and I got the exact same paninni at Johnny Corino's.  John H. and I were crushed by Wayne and Traci. I hardly got any cards.  John H. got  4 aces twice during the game but one time he had them left him with a failed Tichu call.  The aces are not always as strong as you think.

The kitten is with a new, loving home now.

Shelter Bound

My allergic daughter comes back from church camp tomorrow. This means the stray kitten that came to our house yesterday must go to the shelter tomorrow. Unless somebody out there wants to give it a good home. My wife said it's about 4 months old.

Anyone else confused by looking at this sign? It didn't help that there were baskets everywhere. Fortunately someone on the course playing hole 3 saw my confusion and decided to play all 27 holes with me.

The back 9 was interesting through the woods but some of the holes were "tone poles.''  This meant there were no baskets but you just pegged the pole.  Arrgh!  I hated tone poles.
